About the Farm

Bishop’s Orchards is a seventh-generation family farm rooted in Guilford, Connecticut since 1871, when Walter Goodrich Bishop first established the original 52-acre farm. What began as a modest operation selling milk, ice, and produce has evolved—through grit, foresight, and stewardship—into a thriving multifaceted enterprise encompassing an orchard, farm market, winery, creamery, CSA program, and robust Pick-Your-Own experiences. Each generation of the Bishop family has carried forward the commitment to agriculture, embracing innovation while preserving the heritage of New England farming.

Over the decades, the farm has continually adapted to the needs of the land and its community. The Bishop family has expanded their offerings to include over 300 acres of cultivated land producing an abundance of fruits and vegetables, alongside a bustling year-round market and a celebrated winery producing fruit-based wines from their own harvest. The farm market, now over 5,600 square feet, is a vibrant hub offering artisanal baked goods, specialty groceries, a vast cheese selection, and an ever-evolving inventory of health-conscious and local products. Their growing CSA and Pick-Your-Own programs provide families with a direct, seasonal connection to the land and its harvest.

What distinguishes Bishop’s Orchards is not just its legacy, but its vision for sustainability and community health. With deep agricultural roots and a forward-thinking embrace of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), the farm remains economically viable and ecologically responsible. Co-CEOs Keith and Jonathan Bishop, alongside members of the sixth and seventh generations, continue to honor the farm’s mission: to nourish their community with fresh, trustworthy, locally grown food. Bishop’s Orchards is more than a farm—it’s a living legacy dedicated to food, family, and the future.
