About the Farm

Foote Brook Farm is a 100-acre diversified, certified organic produce farm nestled in the fertile soils of the Lamoille River Valley in Johnson, Vermont. Owned and operated by third-generation farmers Tony and Joie Lehouillier, the farm has been family-run since 1997. Tony grew up in Johnson on the family farm where his father grew turf grass sod, and he went on to study plant and soil science at the University of Vermont. Today, he and Joie together cultivate more than 145 different varieties of organic produce across 45 acres of vegetable production.

The farm is located near the convergence of the Lamoille River and Foote Brook, waters that help sustain the rich growing fields. In addition to its vegetable production, the farm dedicates 25 acres to non-organic sod grass harvesting, continuing the tradition Tony's father began. Foote Brook Farm distributes its vegetables through the Deep Root Organic Co-op, which the Lehouilliers co-founded alongside a handful of farmers in Vermont and Massachusetts in 1985, and sells directly at its on-site farm stand as well as select local grocery stores.

The seasonal farm stand, which opened in its current form in 2012, is the heart of the operation. Open daily from late June through mid-November, it is a bustling gathering place where neighbors fill baskets with produce pulled from the ground just a couple hundred yards away. The Lehouilliers' specialties include the freshest berries, the sweetest corn, and greens picked right out back. Their deep ties to the land and their commitment to sustainable, organic growing practices have made Foote Brook Farm a cornerstone of the Lamoille County food community.
